 Cultural Awareness Training

Public and private businesses engaged in WA’s infrastructural renewal and development work on Noongar Country. All progressive firms and agencies are now committed to the development and implementation of meaningful RAPs.

It is a changing landscape with enormous opportunities for education, understanding, co-development and greatly enriched professional and social wellbeing.

Reflecting this, Nyungar Birdiyia foregrounds the personal touch, the chance for staff working at all levels of seniority and expertise within the client organisation to meet and talk with members of our Noongar community.

Around this human interaction we structure our cultural awareness training flexibly. We can provide one-off immersives, we can organise and conduct introductory sessions that are repeated for different cohorts and we can also provide on Country experiences featuring a range of traditional activities.

The formal structure of any session is designed to foster the free, respectful and safe exchange of experiences; ignorance is welcomed! We are all learning.

After the Welcome to Country, a powerpoint presentation is used to promote dialogue about different aspects of Noongar culture. Key cultural, historical and social facts are explained simply and in a way that invites question and exploration.

The exact organisation of the content depends on the client’s resources and needs.

Besides powerpoint, oral communication and hands-on activities, Nyungar Birdiyia supplies information sheets that supplement the powerpoint presentation.

Recognising the significant investment that the client is making in cultural awareness training, Nyungar Birdiyia also provides an evaluation questionnaire: feedback from this is used to improve our performance and to ensure that we are fully meeting client expectations.
